Hello everyone! As promised, I am starting the first in a series of reviewing makeup I’ve used for a while. Today I will be looking at Too Faced’s “Better Than Sex” mascara.
I got a sample size of this mascara in an Ipsy bag, although I can’t remember which one! I’ve gotten quite a bit of use from it, and for the most part, I’m very impressed, and will definitely be buying the full size of this item at some point in the near future!
The featured image of this post is slightly misleading. The flash of my camera washed out the colour, turning it from a pale pink to a purple-gray colour. Just thought I should point that out before we begin! I did not use any eyelash primer for this review, nor am I wearing any makeup in these pictures aside from foundation + skin primer (and no, I am not wearing contact lenses! 😂)
The brush is what is most important about any mascara. Formulas don’t vary much from brand to brand (aside from quality), and the brush makes all the difference. “Better Than Sex” has a slightly curved, hourglass-shaped wand, as seen below:
The shape of this brush allows for one to easily and evenly apply mascara across the eyelashes; especially those tiny ones on the inner and outer corners. I would suggest applying this mascara as normal, then, using the rounded end, get all the tiny hairs on the corners and bottom lashes.
Here is a picture of my natural eyelashes, no primer and no editing. Only flash was used:
I have fairly large eyes and straight eyelashes that curve up only a little. I have lots of tiny lashes tucked in the outer corner as well; its often hard to apply mascara here without smudging.
Here is what happened after a single coat, no curling, using the technique I described above:
As you can see, a single coat of this mascara adds major lift and volume! Smudging and fallout is minimal, and the tinier lashes on my outer corner have been lifted and blend in better with the entire lashline. My lower lashes have been greatly accentuated as well.
On my left eye, I applied a single coat again, this time curling my lashes. I curled for 8 seconds at the base of my lashes, and another 8 seconds halfway up the hair shaft. Again, no primer was used.
So, this mascara will basically put your lashes on steroids if you choose to curl them as well! This mascara absolutely holds up to the promise of bigger and better lashes.
If you’re looking for a mascara that is not as bold and/or is more natural, this mascara might not be the one for you, as it offers an intense level of volume, lengthening, and curling (even without a curler!). But if you’re like me, and love having intense lashes, you definitely need this product!
It might not be better than sex, but its definitely better than the bulk of other mascaras I’ve tried.
Have you tried this mascara? Did it work for you? If not, what is your go-to mascara?
Have an excellent evening, and don’t forget to like and subscribe for more updates!
